Our Story

How it all started...

Bellefounte Baptist Church began from a community revival in a borrowed Methodist church building located near Bellefounte Springs. As a result of a revival meeting in October of 1935, fourteen people were baptized in the Hiwassee River. Soon, the need for a new church was realized.
The church was established with 20 members later that year. Not long after, a church building was built on a hilltop above Bellefounte Springs by its members on land donated by the John Moore family, where the church met for 36 years. In 1966, a new church was built in its current location with a membership of 164 members.
Lake Walker was called to be the eleventh pastor of Bellefounte Baptist Church in October of 1968. For more than 5 decades the church has been greatly blessed by the ministry of Pastor Lake and his wife Sue. Together they have faithfully served the church not only in their leadership but also in their loving example of godliness and in their commitment to the church and its people.
On May 20th, 1990, the first service was held in the current sanctuary. In this new addition, the church has witnessed many wonderful services, baptisms, baby dedications, marriages, and salvations. This space has become the location of many of our most cherished memories.
Over the years the Lord has continually blessed His church at Bellefounte. Church records show that many people have played a special role in the life of our church and for them and their service, we give glory to God. They have a legacy that we continue to honor to this day by carrying out the ministry that they began many years ago.
Our church has a rich history of both local and foreign mission work with many mission trips to Guatemala, Honduras, and other distant places. The church has also been active locally in the community serving many families and schools in the area.
Space does not permit us to name all the ways the Lord has so richly blessed our church, but for His faithfulness to us, we will always give Him the praise and the glory for His abundant and steadfast goodness to us.

And he is the head of the body, the church:
who is the beginning…that in all things he might have the preeminence.
Colossians 1:18

Expanding the vision...

Where we are headed...

We're so excited about what God is doing in our community, and our building program is a vital part of expanding our ministry's reach!

This isn't just about brick and mortar; it's about creating more space to welcome new families, expand our children's programs, and better serve those in need. Every single gift—no matter the size—is an investment in the spiritual growth and future of our church and neighborhood.

Please prayerfully consider how you can contribute to this ministry expansion. Let's build a lasting foundation for generations to come!
